Usage and Compatibility
What can I cut with this saw?
Anything between Mohs 1 and 9 — which covers the vast majority of what lapidary artists work with:
- Everyday materials: agate, jasper, quartz, chalcedony, turquoise, lapis lazuli, obsidian, aventurine
- Harder stones: jade, jadeite, ruby and sapphire (corundum), garnet
- Also works on: glass, ceramics, shell, bone
What this saw isn't built for: Extra-large stone blocks (it is recommended to use a large slab saw for initial cutting before precision processing).
What is the cutting precision?
The precision of the ToAuto cold-cutting saw stems from several key design features:
- 0.1mm spindle precision (spindle extension/rotor precision reaches 0.01mm): Minimizes saw blade wobble, ensuring a smooth, perpendicular cut surface.
- Thickened 304 stainless steel tabletop: 4mm thick, resistant to deformation and shifting.
- 160mm precision-engraved scale: Features a center-symmetrical scale design for accurate guidance, eliminating the need for repeated calibration.
How big a rock can it actually cut?
Good question — and the spec-sheet numbers undersell it. Blade exposure works as a cutting radius, so what you can cut depends on how you cut it:
- Straight push cut (stone slabs & flat stones): single-pass depth equals blade exposure — G6 Pro: 33 mm (1.3"), G8 Max: 60 mm (2.36"). Plenty for cab pre-forms, pendants, and everyday stone slabs.
- Roll-cut (nodules & rounded river rocks): the classic trim-saw technique — you rotate the rock as you cut so the blade reaches in from every side. The exposure becomes your cutting radius, which doubles the effective diameter: the G6 rolls through round rocks up to about 66 mm (2.6"), the G8 up to about 120 mm (4.7"). Agate nodules, river rocks, geode halves — just roll them through. Cuts near the max diameter take a little patience, not a bigger saw.
- Long, thin stones: cut length isn't limited by the machine. A thin stone slab feeds straight through and overhangs the far side of the table, so you can cut slabs well longer than the saw itself — as long as thickness stays within the depth above. Your width envelope is the blade opening at table level: 130 mm (5.1") on the G6, 188 mm (7.4") on the G8; the thinner the stone, the closer you can work to that full width.
Heads up if you use the precision vise ($179, sold separately):The vise holds your rock steady but reduces effective cutting depth — G6 drops to under 10 mm (0.39"), G8 drops to under 20 mm (0.79"). Great for repetitive precision cuts, but not the right setup for deep cuts on thick stone.
Rule of thumb: round rocks up to a tennis ball, the G6 handles them all day. Bigger than a softball — or you're slicing thick stone slabs daily — step up to the G8.
Is draining easy? Is cleaning a hassle?
Unlike traditional wet-cutting systems, which typically require manually lifting and emptying the slurry, the ToAuto is equipped with a drain valve and hose connection for quick, controlled drainage. This reduces the time spent cleaning up slurry, allowing you to focus more on your next project.
Attentive customers will notice that our drain outlet is positioned slightly above the bottom of the tank—a design inspired by feedback from experienced gemstone cutters.
During wet cutting, the real issue isn’t the water itself, but rather:
- Stone slurry
- Abrasive particles
- Fine dust generated by blade wear
All of these settle at the bottom.
If the drain outlet were positioned at the very bottom:
Every time you drain the tank, a large amount of sediment would be flushed into the drain hose, which could easily lead to:
- Hose clogs
- Slow drainage
- Difficulty cleaning the hose
However, positioning the drain slightly above the bottom creates a sediment zone:
- The relatively clean water on top drains out first;
- Heavier particles remain at the bottom;
- Users can then easily remove the sediment with a towel or brush.
What is the voltage?
120V
Is an air compressor or water circulation system required?
No air compressor is needed.
ToAuto features a built-in gravity-fed liquid cooling system, so there is no need to connect to a tap. You simply fill the reservoir with water; once powered on, the system automatically circulates water to cool the blade.
The key advantage of the gravity-fed design is that it utilizes gravity and potential energy difference to prevent backflow, effectively eliminating the risk of coolant leakage caused by backflow at the source.
What is the difference between the smart cutting machine for gemstones and the one for metal? Which one should I buy?
The gemstone cutting machine is suitable for gemstones, minerals, and creative materials.
The metal cutting machine is suitable for high-performance alloys and metal projects, designed for creators and professionals alike.
Who is this gemstone cutting machine for? Can beginners use it?
It is suitable for home studios, creators, jewelry making, lapidary work, and small-scale metal projects. The ToAuto smart cutting machine is simple and easy to use, making it suitable for beginners.
Product Design and Technology
What kind of motor/spindle is used, and what is its power rating?
ToAuto currently uses a brushless motor. The radial runout accuracy of the spindle (the amount of lateral wobble during rotation) is 0.1 mm, while the precision of the extended rotor reaches 0.01 mm.
It features a rated power of 400 W, a maximum speed of 5,000 rpm, and a torque of 1.1 N·m.
This power configuration is specifically designed for precision cutting at the desktop level; it is not intended for aggressive, heavy-duty stock reduction, but rather for delivering stable, precise, and low-vibration power during fine cutting operations.
If you need to process large raw blocks exceeding ten centimeters in size, we recommend using a large slab saw for the initial rough cutting and the ToAuto unit for precision slicing.
What is the machine body made of? Is it stable?
The overall construction features a 304 stainless steel work surface, a galvanized steel body, and integrated injection-molded structural components.
It is very stable.
Key design features include:
- Machine weight: A net weight of 20 kg; the mass effectively dampens vibration.
- Thickened stainless steel work surface: 4mm-thick 304 stainless steel that resists deformation.
- Integrated injection-molded structural components: Internal structural parts are molded as single units, eliminating looseness associated with assembled joints.
- Compartmentalized structure: Separate compartments for the motor and the cutting mechanism prevent vibration interference between them.
- Gravity-feed container design: Enhances overall assembly precision.
How loud is the noise? Will it be noisy for home use?
The ToAuto smart cutting machine operates within a noise range of 40–60 dB; it is perfectly suitable for indoor use and is not noisy.
Are there safety features?
Yes. The ToAuto smart cutting machine is equipped with an emergency stop button, allowing for immediate shutdown when necessary.
